AN ADVENTURES OF TARZAN ORIGINAL 1921 CAMPAIGN BOOK (press book) FOR THE ELMO LINCOLN SERIAL.
Edgar Rice Burroughs first penned Tarzan in 1914. Elmo Lincoln immortalized the character in 1918 when he first played it on the big screen in Tarzan of the Apes. The film was such a sensation that Lincoln came back to play the “king of the jungle” with a serial in 1921. This more than rare campaign book was made to send to theater managers to help with advertising the attraction. The campaign book has the original ad mats and shows the posters. It’s 8 pages and features GREAT art on the cover rendered by notable illustrator Victor Beals. It’s a miracle this 102 year old book survived, as there’s practically NO campaign books know to exist from this early 1920s period, on any titles!
I acquired this book about 35 years ago when I bought a large collection on this title, which included some of the 6-sheet posters. This is the last item that I saved. It’s well worn, with all the pages loose now and some fragmenting around the
parameters
. I’ve posted high-res photos of all 8 pages so you can see exactly what it looks like. It’s still
