Listing is for a set of $50, $10, and $5 chips form Tony Cornero’s S.S. Rex.
Aside from gangster proprietor Tony Cornero, there were rumors that Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel was an investor in the Rex. When questioned by police in connection with the Harry “Big Greenie” Greenberg murder case, Siegel claimed he had passed on the investment opportunity, however he did reveal that he loaned fellow mobster, Benjamin “Whitey” Krakower, $15,000 to invest in the Rex. Investigators later found checks made out to Cornero from Siegel totaling $18,000. When interviewed by his biographer, Siegel’s childhood friend and Hollywood actor George Raft recalled how Siegel had asked him to borrow a cash loan of $20,000 to invest in the Rex.
